CITRUS BELT AREA NEWS
On Tuesday, September 2, President Rich Shearer, Citrus Hill High School Athletic Director, welcomed members of the Citrus Belt Area Athletic Directors Executive Board to the first scheduled meeting of the 2014-2015 school year. Included were representatives of eleven of the fourteen area leagues and ten of the eleven committee chairs. Rob Wigod, CIF Southern Section Commissioner, was also in attendance. Rob spoke to some of the issues facing the Section and then answered questions relating to the SOP and other items of interest. Assistant Commissioner Glen Martinez also attended and spoke to issues concerning the football season.
The Board amended and formalized the calendar of activities for the year. Our Treasurer, San Gorgonio Athletic Director Matt Maeda, presented a budget report. The Board had previously approved a school membership fee of $200 that allows the CBAADA to continue hosting the senior male and female athletes of the year and the league champion coaches, both events taking place in May. We can also continue offering at least six $500 scholarships to deserving student-athletes. Depending on end-of-year finances, the number of scholarships may be increased to ten, as it was last year. Most leagues have built the school fee into their league dues. The CBAADA will continue to sponsor the new Sportsmanship Award to be presented to schools that meet specific criteria. That committee will meet in the next week or so.
The annual membership drive was begun by Matt Maeda, with the goal of being able to claim one hundred percent membership for the 87 schools in our area for the twenty-second straight year. Matt will be emailing invoices to schools. These can soon be found on the web site www.cbaada.com. Dues were to be sent to Matt at San G.
The area is gearing up once again for releaguing and dates for ADs and Principals to meet were announced.
General membership meetings will continue to be held throughout the year and will include fall, winter, and spring sports scheduling meetings as well. A Mini-Conference will be held on October 7 at the Alvord Staff Development Center, the site of all general meetings. Break-out sessions are in the planning phase and members are asked to send suggestions for these to Ron Main, Norte Vista Athletic Director.
